SHOW AND TELL
It’s a match made in heaven! The Museum of Yachting and Sail Newport are combining forces this summer to kick-start a brand new public sailing facility in the City-by-the-Sea…just in time for the America’s Cup World Series in late June. The museum’s Fort Adams home will soon open its doors to the Sail Newport crew…hellooo, sailing central!
It’ll be the one-stop shop to learn about maritime history and heritage, and get out on the water to experience Newport Harbor firsthand.
Here’s the 411:
Sail Newport’s growing like wildfire, will keep its home base (also at the Fort) and extend additional opportunity through the collaboration and second locale.
The museum will stay open from May-October (for now - with hopes of year-round hours in the future), and the two will pool resources and expertise to encourage increased learning and sailing participation here.
“Partnering with Sail Newport is a perfect way to tell the story of yachting and give people of all ages a chance to experience that very activity,” said Terry Nathan, president of the museum and International Yacht Restoration School.
Students and competitive sailors alike: you’re in the right place!
