The spotlight is on physical and mental health at Middletown’s Innerlight Studio for Yoga and Meditation this week, where Amy Weintraub, author of Yoga for Depression and founding director of the LifeForce Yoga Healing Institute presents “Lifeforce Yoga to Manage Your Mood” workshops. Whether the downward dog is second nature or you’re stepping on the mat for the first time, the courses will incorporate breathing, meditation, mantras and asanas (or yoga postures) for all levels and help you to get in tune with your feelings.
Here’s a rundown of the schedule:
Wednesday, September 20, 10:30-11:45am: Gentle LifeForce Yoga Class Sampler
Friday, September 30, 7-9pm: LifeForce Yoga to Manage Your Mood: Clearing the Space. Includes strategies to strengthen emotional resilience, incorporating breath, sound, movement and visualization to help meet and manage mood.
Saturday, October 1, 10am-2pm: LifeForce Yoga to Get You off the Couch. Embodied practice to meet the lethargic or depressed mood. Practice the Chakra Clearing Meditation, a technique that incorporates mantra, mudra and breath to clear the central energy channel of the body. Then build to a stronger, more dynamic practice, energizing the body mind and spirit. End with a restorative practice of Nidra. Attending Friday night’s session is a prerequisite to this workshop.
